Make Bespoke Studio specifies and supplies surface materials for bespoke furniture, joinery, lighting and architectural interiors. The studio holds a material library spanning solid timbers, stone, lacquer, metal, upholstery, glass and specialist decorative finishes. Many are rare. Some are sourced specifically for a commission, matched to a scheme that couldn't be satisfied from a standard catalogue.
Combining materials across categories is a core part of the offer. Stone with lacquer, veneer with metal mesh, leather alongside cast brass — the studio handles these as single commissions rather than a coordination exercise between separate suppliers.
Every material is chosen for the piece and the setting, then proven on a sample before it is committed. We advise on durability, maintenance and finish, prepare samples to the actual specification, and can match an existing material or develop a new one for a scheme. A choice made on paper is confirmed in the room before anything goes into production.
Materials run through everything we make: veneers and solid timber in furniture and joinery, stone, lacquer and metal in surfaces and detailing, glass and crystal in lighting, and specialist decorative work such as marquetry, straw marquetry, verre églomisé and shagreen. The library exists so that specification happens with material in hand, never from a photograph. Every surface below is held as physical samples, couriered on request through our sampling service, and our team advises on where each material earns its place — and where its budget is better spent elsewhere.
The foundation of most schemes: solid wood for structure, wood veneer for matched surfaces, with exotic and dyed Tabu veneers extending the palette. Alongside timber sit stone, quartzite and leather — the natural materials that age rather than wear.
Metal finishes, liquid metal and metal mesh bring the contemporary edge — cold-sprayed bronze on a curved reception desk, woven brass in a cabinet door. Lacquer spans the full spectrum from dead matt colour to textured, pearlescent art surfaces.
The rarities: verre églomisé, mother of pearl, shagreen, straw marquetry and cracked gesso — surfaces made by hand, specified where a single piece carries the room.
A growing shelf of the library: Foresso timber terrazzo from waste wood, Vetrazzo recycled glass, terrazzo, Corian and rattan — materials chosen because responsibility and character are not opposites.
The library’s real value is in combination: veneer against glass, stone meeting lacquer, metal trim closing a leather edge. We sample combinations together on one board, so a scheme’s palette is approved as a composition rather than a set of unrelated swatches.
