Our Process
Make Bespoke Studio produces physical samples of all specified materials and finishes before a single piece enters production. From lacquer colours and veneer selections to leather panels, stone slabs and metalwork patinas, every finish is presented, reviewed and signed off by the client and design team.
Sample boards are labelled, photographed and filed as part of the project record. This ensures complete continuity between the approved sample and the finished piece, and provides a clear reference for quality control throughout manufacture.
All specified materials listed and sourced; alternatives proposed where lead times or availability require.
Physical samples made in the specified finishes: lacquer draw-downs, veneer coupons, metal mock-ups and upholstery panels.
Sample board presented to the design team and client in context, alongside reference photography and technical notes.
Approved samples signed off and filed; any revisions produced and re-submitted before proceeding.
Approved samples retained on-site at the factory as the definitive quality benchmark throughout manufacture.
Sampling happens at two moments. During design development, we produce option samples — three lacquer sheens, two veneer cuts, a leather in two grains — so decisions are made on material, not memory. At specification freeze, we produce the control samples: the exact finish, on the exact substrate, that production will be measured against. Control samples are labelled, photographed and filed; the one in the client’s hand and the one in the workshop are halves of the same board.
No screen shows how a 30% sheen lacquer behaves at dusk, how a crown-cut veneer shifts as you walk past, or what a leather feels like at fingertip. Metamerism — colours matching under one light and drifting under another — is caught only by viewing samples in conditions close to the project’s own. Wherever possible we review samples on site or under specified lighting.
Samples are couriered anywhere; standard finishes ship within days, developed finishes — a custom textured lacquer, a matched stain — take one to two weeks of workshop time.
