The workshop

Where timber becomes furniture

The woodwork facility runs from raw timber selection and drying through to final assembly and finishing, every stage under one roof. Master joiners work alongside CNC routers and panel saws to produce furniture, joinery panels, cabinetry and architectural woodwork.

The wood store holds timber from European oak and American walnut to hand-selected exotics, alongside the full Tabu veneer collection. Veneering is carried out in-house on flat and curved substrates. The range of species available is broad by design — a single commission may draw on several.

Species selection is matched to application. European hardwoods — oak, walnut, ash — suit most furniture and cabinetwork. Tropical hardwoods such as iroko and teak are specified where moisture or humidity is a factor: bathrooms, outdoor joinery, areas adjoining water features. Man-made boards provide dimensional stability where natural movement is a concern. The workshop also undertakes hand carving for relief panels, furniture details and bespoke decorative elements.

CNC routers cut panel profiles, rebates, mortices and decorative surface details with repeatable accuracy across every component in a production run. Where hand routing introduces variation at scale, CNC eliminates it. Panel saws break down sheet materials and solid timber to working dimensions; thicknessing and planing follow, establishing flat, square, parallel faces before joinery begins.

Traditional hand joinery runs in parallel with the machines. Mortice and tenon joints are cut for frame-and-panel construction and solid furniture frames. Through and lapped dovetails for drawer boxes and cabinet carcases. Loose-tenon systems for panel assemblies where speed and dimensional accuracy are both required. Every joint is dry-fitted and checked before glue-up.

Finishing takes place in-house — oiling, hardwax oil, lacquering and staining. Each method begins with progressive sanding to a clean substrate. Oil finishes are built in flatted coats; lacquer is applied in the spray booth where a uniform surface is required. Staining is worked in layers to the specified depth before a protective topcoat is applied. Nothing leaves the workshop without final checking and rectification completed.

All cabinetry is assembled and dry-fitted before leaving the workshop. The site team handles final installation, ensuring the finished piece lands as specified.
