Bespoke lighting is a fixture made to commission for a particular ceiling height, room proportion and decorative scheme: scaled to its volume and finished to belong in the room, rather than chosen from a catalogue and simply fitted.

There is a moment at the end of every installation when the dimmer comes up for the first time and the room quietly rearranges itself. A ceiling that was flat a second ago gains depth; a wall finish you had walked past a dozen times suddenly shows its grain; the corners soften and the eye is drawn, without being told, to where it should rest. Light is the one element of an interior that does all of this at once — altering mood, perceived scale and emotional register — and yet it is so often left until last, chosen from a catalogue and fitted as a practical necessity rather than considered as a designed object in space.

Bespoke lighting begins from the other end. A piece made to commission for a particular ceiling height, room proportion and decorative scheme does something a stock fixture never quite manages: it belongs. It is scaled to its volume, finished to sit happily alongside the surrounding metalwork, and designed to take part in the room rather than merely throw light into it. You feel the difference before you can name it.

Crystal chandeliers

Crystal chandeliers remain among the most enduring expressions of decorative lighting, and watching one come alive explains why. At their best they are objects of extraordinary complexity — hundreds of individual cut elements hung by hand, each one catching the source and casting it on again, so that a single bulb becomes a whole room full of small bright points. Turn the dimmer low, or set real candlelight beneath one, and the crystals seem to tremble with light, throwing tiny moving facets across the ceiling. No other fixture does this.

A bespoke crystal commission lets the designer hold every dimension in their own hands: the diameter, the drop, the number of tiers, the crystal itself — lead crystal, Swarovski, hand-cut — and the finish of the frame that carries it all. In a reception hall or a double-height space, a chandelier sized specifically for the volume above it reads as part of the architecture rather than an ornament hung beneath it. We have spent enough time on the workbench threading drops one at a time to know how unforgiving the geometry is: a tier set even slightly proud of true catches the light unevenly, and the eye notices long before anyone can say what is wrong, so the assembly is checked lit, not just hung.

We also undertake restorations of antique chandeliers: re-wiring to modern standards, replacing damaged drops, re-gilding frames and adapting historic fixtures for contemporary dimmer systems.

Murano glass

Murano glass chandeliers sit in a different register to crystal — warmer, more organic, often more openly sculptural. Where crystal scatters light, Murano holds it: the glow seems to gather inside the blown forms and seep out through their colour. The Venetian glassblowing tradition, sustained on the island of Murano for over seven centuries, produces glass of a character that industrial methods simply cannot fake — the soft gradations of colour, the air caught mid-bubble, the slight, living irregularity of forms shaped by breath and hand.

For an interior where the brief leans towards warmth rather than grandeur, a Murano piece — whether a traditional multi-arm design or a looser contemporary cluster of blown forms — brings a real sense of life into the room. We source directly from established Murano workshops and can commission entirely original designs to specification.

Heritage and period lighting

Heritage lighting covers the restoration and reproduction of period fixtures — Georgian lanterns, Arts and Crafts pendants, Art Deco uplighters — as well as the design of new pieces that settle comfortably into a historic scheme without tipping into pastiche.

For listed buildings, conservation areas and interiors with strong period character, lighting that reads as genuinely of its time is worth a great deal. We work from original examples, historic drawings and period references, paying close attention to the things the eye registers without naming them — the warmth of the light a fixture was built to hold, the patina a finish should carry — so that the finished piece carries conviction rather than merely costume.

Contemporary bespoke lighting

Where the brief is entirely original, contemporary bespoke lighting offers complete freedom of form. We have made sculptural pendant clusters that hang in the air of double-height lobbies, brass and smoked-glass pendants that pool a low, intimate light over private dining tables, linear ceiling pieces drawn out along gallery corridors, and large-scale installation works for hospitality spaces.

The work usually begins with a conversation — understanding the architecture of the space, the material palette already in play, and the quality of light the room actually wants, whether that is a crisp, gallery-bright clarity or something softer and more golden to dine beneath. Sketches and 3D models follow, with material samples and, where it earns its place, a prototype. Lead times for complex contemporary commissions are typically 12–20 weeks from design approval.

Specifying bespoke lighting

The decisions that matter most in lighting happen early, long before anything is drawn: ceiling height, structural fixing points, electrical capacity and dimming strategy. A bespoke commission needs these settled at the outset, because they govern the scale, the weight and the electrical specification of the finished piece.
