Commercial Joinery

Bespoke spa reception, treatment & changing joinery

Make Bespoke Studio produces joinery for spa and wellness environments, from reception desks and relaxation room furniture to treatment room built-ins, changing room lockers and sauna interiors. All joinery is specified to withstand humid conditions and frequent cleaning.

We understand the particular demands of spa environments: materials must be moisture-resistant, surfaces must be easy to clean, and designs must create a sense of calm and luxury. We work with thermally modified timber, solid oak, stainless steel and stone to achieve this.

In Detail

Spa and wellness spaces are where guests slow down. They are quieter, more controlled environments, but they still work hard – supporting treatments, changing, bathing, resting and socialising across the day. Joinery is central to how these spaces feel and function: lockers, vanities, treatment room storage, refreshment points, poolside elements and more.

At Make Bespoke Studio we design and deliver spa and wellness joinery for hotels, members’ clubs and residential developments – from compact urban spas to generous resort wellness floors – working closely with interior designers, architects, operators and spa consultants.

The role of joinery in spa and wellness experiences

In spa and wellness environments, joinery shapes much of the guest’s tactile experience – from the feel of locker doors and vanity edges to how towels, products and refreshments are presented. It also quietly manages storage, services and staff flows behind the scenes.

We think of spa and wellness joinery as a continuous layer running through reception, changing, treatment, pool and lounge spaces, connecting decisions made on Reception Desks & Lobby Joinery, Amenity & Members’ Club Joinery, Tea Points & Breakout Kitchenettes and Fitted Storage & Alcove Units.

Types of spa and wellness spaces

Every spa is different, but many share a familiar family of spaces. We adapt the joinery language to each while keeping a coherent thread throughout.

Key joinery elements within spa and wellness spaces

We organise spa and wellness joinery into clear families of elements so that spaces feel coherent and calm, even when they work very hard operationally.

Wet areas, materials and detailing

Spa and wellness joinery has to perform in demanding conditions – moisture, temperature variation, products and intensive cleaning. We pay close attention to substrates, finishes and detailing so that pieces age well.

We develop palettes using our Materials library – including moisture-resistant substrates, specialist laminates, lacquers, stones, composites and metals – and align them with stylistic directions on Joinery Styles.

Operations, housekeeping and back-of-house

Behind the sense of calm in a spa is a busy operational layer – linens in and out, products restocked, treatment rooms turned over. We design joinery to support this rhythm without breaking the atmosphere for guests.

Much of this storage thinking draws on Fitted Storage & Alcove Units and Locker Rooms & Back-of-House Joinery, adapted for spa-specific operations.

Integration with services and specialist equipment

Spa and wellness joinery has to accommodate plumbing, drainage, ventilation, heating, AV and specialist equipment – often within tight footprints. We integrate these early so that guests see only a calm, resolved surface.

These integrations sit within our broader Bespoke Joinery technical package and are coordinated with MEP, AV and specialist spa consultants.

Lighting, mood and sensory experience

Lighting and joinery work closely together in spa environments. We design joinery to hold lighting in ways that support calm, legible and adaptable spaces.

Working with architecture and adjacencies

Spa and wellness areas often sit slightly apart from the main circulation, but they still need to connect clearly to lobbies, amenity floors and guestrooms. We use joinery to manage these thresholds.

Our process for spa and wellness joinery

Our approach to spa and wellness joinery follows the same clear stages as our wider

Bespoke Joinery work, with additional emphasis on moisture, comfort and operational flows.

  1. Brief & operational review We begin by understanding guest profiles, spa concept, treatment menu, operating hours and staffing – as well as any brand standards or consultant inputs.
  2. Plans, adjacencies and services review We review plans, sections, MEP and specialist spa information – or visit site – to understand adjacencies, services routes and views.
  3. Layout options and zoning We develop joinery-led layout options, testing the placement of lockers, vanities, treatment consoles, towel stations and refreshment points along the guest journey.
  4. Detailed design & coordination We produce detailed joinery drawings showing construction, internal layouts, substrates, finishes, services integration and junctions with walls, floors and ceilings.
  5. Materials, samples and mock-ups We prepare focused samples and, where helpful, support mock-ups of key areas, aligning them with adjacent scopes on Types of Joinery and ensuring consistency with wider Hospitality Joinery and Amenity & Members’ Club Joinery packages.
  6. Production & installation Spa and wellness joinery is manufactured through our network of workshops and installed in coordination with main contractors, MEP and spa specialists, with careful setting out and on-site adjustments to suit real conditions.

Connecting spa and wellness into the wider scheme

Spa and wellness spaces are part of a wider story – from first arrival at reception to guestrooms, amenity floors and outdoor terraces.
