Kitchens and pantries carry a huge amount of the work in a project. They need to feel effortless to use, calm to live with and completely aligned with the wider interior story. At Make Bespoke Studio we design and deliver bespoke kitchens and pantries for high-end homes, apartments, hotels and amenity spaces – working closely with interior designers, architects and kitchen specialists.

Kitchens as part of the wider joinery story

We treat kitchens and pantries as part of a continuous joinery narrative rather than as isolated rooms. Cabinetry, wall panelling, media walls, bars and storage are all developed together so that profiles, colours and materials feel intentional from room to room.

• Secondary and catering kitchens – Back-of-house spaces that support entertaining – from drinks preparation to catering – allowing principal kitchens to remain composed and guest-facing.
• Outdoor and garden-adjacent kitchens – Joinery that works with terraces, doors and glazing to extend kitchen rituals outside during warmer months.

Pantries, larders and secondary storage

Pantries and larders take pressure off the main kitchen, keeping dry goods, bulk items and small appliances organised and out of sight. They can be as compact as a single tall unit or as generous as a separate room.

• Integrated larder units – Full-height cupboards with a mix of shallow shelves, internal drawers and door racks, designed around real shopping and cooking habits.
• Walk-in pantries – Room-sized storage spaces with perimeter shelving, worktops for small appliances and sometimes a sink, fridge or second dishwasher.
• Butler’s pantries and sculleries – Spaces dedicated to prep, clearing and washing-up during entertaining, leaving the principal kitchen uncluttered.

Kitchens and pantries in hospitality and amenity projects

In hospitality and amenity settings, kitchens and pantries range from fully serviced back-of-house facilities to visible show kitchens and guest pantries. Each type has its own priorities around robustness, access and guest experience.

• Show kitchens and chef’s tables – Front-of-house kitchens where presentation is as important as performance, often linked visually to dining rooms and bars.
• Guest pantries and honour bars – Small kitchenettes or pantry walls within guestroom corridors, suites or members’ areas, offering light refreshments in a residential-feeling way.
• Amenity kitchens and tea points – Kitchens on amenity floors or within co-working spaces, usually developed alongside Tea Points & Breakout Kitchenettes and Amenity & Members’ Club Joinery.

Back-of-house and staff-facing elements are typically coordinated under Hospitality Joinery, working alongside Tea Points & Breakout Kitchenettes, Locker Rooms & Back-of-House Joinery and Spa & Wellness Joinery where relevant.

Workflow, ergonomics and services

Whatever the setting, a kitchen that looks good but is tiring to use will not succeed. We plan workflow, ergonomics and services from the outset, aligning with the design team’s appliance choices and performance requirements.

• zoning for prep, cooking, washing and serving so that routes are clear and crossings are minimised
• balancing worktop runs, island sizes and clearances so that spaces feel generous but not wasteful
• planning extract, ventilation, drainage and power in coordination with mechanical and electrical teams
• providing appropriate clearances and access for appliance installation, maintenance and future replacement

These considerations are integrated into our Bespoke Joinery process and reflected in coordinated drawings and setting-out information.

Materials, durability and character

Kitchens and pantries have to stand up to heavy daily use while still supporting the atmosphere the interior design sets out. We balance practicality, maintenance and character in the material palette.

We build schemes from our Materials library – lacquers, laminates, timbers, veneers, stones, composites and metals – and align them with the stylistic directions captured on Joinery Styles.

• durable carcase materials and finishes that cope with moisture, impact and frequent cleaning
• fronts and panels that either blend into surrounding walls or read as a more deliberate piece of furniture
• careful choice of worktop materials – from natural stones to composites – based on how clients cook and entertain
• hardware and mechanisms specified for long-term reliability, particularly on large doors, pocket systems and larder units

Samples for kitchens and pantries are always reviewed alongside adjacent joinery – bars, utilities, storage and sometimes media walls – to ensure a coherent story through the project.

Relationship with adjacent spaces

Kitchens rarely sit in isolation. They open onto dining rooms, living spaces, terraces and corridors. We pay particular attention to how kitchen joinery meets other elements at thresholds and shared walls.

This often involves close coordination with Wall Panelling & Architectural Joinery, Internal Doors & Screens, Home Bars & Back Bars and Media Walls & TV Joinery, so that changes in function feel natural rather than abrupt.

Our process for kitchens and pantries

Our approach to kitchen and pantry joinery follows the same clear stages as our wider

Bespoke Joinery work, with additional emphasis on workflow, services and coordination with appliance specifications.

1. Brief & use patterns We begin by understanding who will use the kitchen, how often, how they cook and entertain, and which appliances and features are important to them.
2. Room and services review We review plans, sections and service information – or visit site – to understand structure, extract routes, drainage, glazing and connections to adjacent spaces.
3. Layout options and elevations We develop layout options for kitchens and pantries, testing islands, peninsulas, storage and circulation, supported by elevations and simple 3D views where helpful.
4. Technical design & coordination We produce detailed joinery drawings showing carcass construction, clearances, appliance integration, ventilation, lighting and coordination with mechanical and electrical design.
5. Materials and samples We prepare focused sample sets for fronts, carcases, worktops, handles and details, aligning them with adjacent scopes on Types of Joinery and ensuring consistency with Residential Joinery or Hospitality Joinery packages.
6. Production & installation Kitchens and pantries are manufactured through our network of workshops and installed in coordination with contractors, appliance suppliers and stone fabricators, with careful setting out and sign-off at each stage.
