Project Thomas

No.12 Studio worked with our partners to produce a loose furniture package for this impressive apartment. Project Thomas is a private London residence designed with a strong architectural sensibility, a contemporary luxury apartment in the heart of Kensington built around open-plan living and a clarity of spatial organisation.

Make Bespoke's partners contributed bespoke joinery and furniture to several key rooms, producing pieces to a precise technical specification that responded to the architecture's clean geometry. Work included fitted storage, bespoke cabinetry and custom furniture frames upholstered in client-specified fabrics.

Throughout the project, close coordination between the studio's makers and the design team ensured that each piece held its position within the scheme, neither overstated nor understated, but resolved to exactly the level of detail the interior demanded.

The brief was for loose furniture rather than fitted joinery, which sets a particular discipline: each piece has to stand on its own as an object — legible from multiple angles, sized to the room without a wall or carcase to give it a frame, and finished so that it reads as belonging to the architecture rather than added in afterwards. Frame proportions, upholstery weight and timber tone were resolved against the architect’s reference imagery before any pattern was cut.

Pieces were produced in our partners’ London workshops and delivered to site as a co-ordinated set, with positioning checked against the lighting plan so that the upholstery and timber would read correctly under the apartment’s mixed daylight and evening light conditions.
