Nobu Hotel London Portman Square brings the globally recognised Nobu aesthetic, Japanese minimalism meets contemporary luxury, to a full-service hotel setting in the heart of London. The brand's design language is precise and uncompromising, with every material choice and furniture specification held to a consistent standard across its international portfolio.

Make Bespoke Studio's partners supplied bespoke furniture and joinery for guestroom and public area spaces, producing casegoods, feature joinery and decorative panels to Nobu's exacting brand specification. The work required close collaboration with the brand's design and procurement team to ensure each piece was consistent with the hotel's considered, minimal aesthetic.

Nestled amidst the energy of East London’s creative district and the financial centre of the City, Nobu Hotel London Shoreditch, designed by local designer Studio Mica, delivers the perfect blend of industrial chic and Japanese simplicity. Offering 164 guest rooms and suites — including penthouse suites on the sixth floor with a private rooftop terrace — the hotel also boasts a unique open-air courtyard adjacent to Nobu restaurant, extensive event space and a luxury spa offering signature Nobu treatments. Our partners created the furniture pieces for the public areas which included waney-edged oak coffee tables and banquette seating with cane detailing.

The Shoreditch property is the second Nobu Hotel to open in London and was designed to read as the more relaxed of the pair: exposed-concrete soffits and steel columns from the building’s warehouse fabric carried into the public rooms, softened with reclaimed timber, washi-paper textures and the quiet hand-finished detailing that defines the wider Nobu brand.

The waney-edge oak coffee tables in the lobby retain the natural live edge of the timber, sanded and oiled to a low sheen rather than cut into a clean rectangle — an explicit reference to the wabi-sabi principle of finding beauty in irregularity. The banquette seating throughout the public areas carries a contemporary cane-back detail set into oak frames, balancing the heavier industrial vocabulary of the building.
