South Place Hotel

The new South Place Hotel, opened by restaurateurs D&D in the City of London, was designed to reflect the culture and distinct style of the area and the quintessential essence of what makes Britain great. This approach included the choice of bespoke lighting produced by our team as well as commissioned works from London artists. Designed by Conran and Partners we produced statement fittings for the restaurant Angler, 3 South Place Bar and for one of the 1st floor meeting rooms, as well as more than 300 pendant and reading lights for the hotel's 80 bedrooms.

This approach included the choice of bespoke lighting produced by our partners as well as commissioned works from London artists. Designed by Conran and Partners, our partners produced statement fittings for the restaurant Angler, 3 South Place Bar and one of the 1st-floor meeting rooms, as well as more than 300 pendant and reading lights for the hotel’s 80 bedrooms. A 300-plus bedroom-lighting package is a different production discipline from a single statement chandelier. The reading and pendant lights had to be unit-cost efficient enough for the hotel-room rollout, durable enough for fifteen years of guest use, and visually consistent enough that every room read as the same scheme — while still feeling bespoke rather than off-the-shelf. Components were sub-assembled at workshop in batches, with random sample testing carried out at each batch to keep the finish and electrical fit-out tolerance under control.

The statement fittings for Angler, 3 South Place Bar and the meeting room sat at the other end of the brief: large-format pieces, hand-finished, signed off as one-offs against the Conran reference imagery. Brass casting, glass selection and on-site rigging were all carried out by our partners’ teams, with each fitting checked at full output under the actual ambient lighting of its room before sign-off.
