Our West Sussex workshop has been making furniture continuously since 1913, making it one of England's longest-running furniture workshops. Eight craftspeople work across four core disciplines: hand-laid veneering, water and oil gilding, upholstery, and laser cutting for precision detail work.

Veneering is the foundation. Rare and figured timbers are book-matched, quartered and laid by hand onto solid substrates. Gilding follows a centuries-old process: gesso ground, bole, then gold or silver leaf applied by water or oil method depending on the surface and the brief. The workshop holds both techniques and moves between them as the work requires.

The team is deliberately small. Eight people, each a skilled generalist who can move between disciplines. Upholstery sits alongside the veneer and gilding benches. Laser cutting handles the precision detail that hand tools cannot match at the tolerances the studio demands. Over a century of accumulated knowledge informs every decision, from species selection through adhesive choice to finishing sequence.
